Nia Glassie was a three-year-old girl from Rotorua, New Zealand, who was subjected to severe abuse by her mother, Lisa Kuka, and her mother’s partner, Wiremu Curtis, along with other family members. Nia was regularly beaten, spun on a clothes dryer, and subjected to wrestling moves. The abuse culminated in a fatal head injury.

Nia died on August 3, 2007, after being in a coma for 13 days. Her death sparked national outrage and led to the conviction of her abusers for manslaughter.
