Expanding Behavioral Health in Rural Areas
The Biden-Harris Administration has introduced the “Rural Health Clinic Behavioral Health Initiative” in 2024, allocating $10 million to expand access to behavioral health services in rural communities. This program addresses the high rates of mental health issues and substance abuse in rural areas by providing funding to rural health clinics to integrate behavioral health services into their primary care offerings.
Supporting Rural Healthcare Providers
The initiative also aims to support rural healthcare providers by offering technical assistance and resources to help them implement and sustain behavioral health programs. This includes training for healthcare professionals and support for telehealth services to reach patients in remote areas. By enhancing the capabilities of rural health clinics, the program seeks to improve mental health outcomes for rural populations.
