On February 27, 2004, the Daegu subway fire in South Korea, which spread to adjacent shopping areas, resulted in 192 fatalities and hundreds of injuries. The fire began from a flammable liquid and quickly engulfed the area, causing extensive damage and loss of life.
Suspect’s Arrest
The fire was started by an arsonist who was quickly identified and arrested. The suspect, who had a history of mental illness, admitted to the crime and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
