Preparing for the Life-Altering Surgery
The parents of the Herrin twins were committed to ensuring that their daughters felt prepared and comfortable before undergoing the life-changing surgery. The girls reminisced, “We had our own playroom, we had dolls…We also got nurse badges too.” It was evident that the hospital staff, their nurses, and their parents went above and beyond to create a supportive environment. However, the outcome of the surgery remained uncertain until it was actually performed.
The parents’ primary goal was for the twins to have positive memories in the days leading up to the surgery, particularly because these might have been their final days together.
