A Grueling 26-Hour Surgery
For Kendra and Maliyah, the surgery seemed to last only an hour, but in reality, it extended through a grueling 26 hours. Six highly skilled surgeons, assisted by 25 support staff, worked relentlessly to separate the twins at the torso, resulting in each girl retaining one leg. The post-surgery period proved just as formidable; the twins required a three-month hospital stay to ensure they were on the path to successful recovery and long-term health.
The recovery journey was fraught with uncertainty, yet the Herrin family was bolstered by an incredible support network during these trying times. Despite this, the outcome of the girls’ healing remained uncertain.
