Working Hard for All of Us
The Eastern Red Bat, showcased in this image, is a species known for its migratory habits and preference for tree roosting—though not in the manner of a rooster, but rather, they nestle in trees. This bat, affectionately dubbed Hieronymus, might appear formidable in size, but in reality, it grows to a maximum length of about four and a half inches.
Though not particularly large, these bats contribute significantly by consuming roughly half their body weight in insects each night. This dietary habit is immensely beneficial to us, equating to three to six grams of bugs. Comparatively, consider how many bugs you’ve ingested recently? Exactly, that puts things into perspective.
