Absolutely Wild Cases of Feral Children Throughout History

Robert Mayanja

Robert Mayanja was discovered living with monkeys in 1985 when he was just six years old by NRA soldiers in Uganda. It is unknown exactly how Robert ended up abandoned in the jungle, but it is believed that his parents were killed in the war when he was only three years old. Monkeys quickly adopted the young boy and taught him how to survive on roots, berries, and fruits. He had mannerisms like monkeys, made jungle noises, and only squatted and jumped. He could not sit, stand, smile, or talk.

When the soldiers rescued him from the jungle, it is said that a female monkey tried to keep him by holding Robert close to her chest. Robert was taken to a facility for handicapped children where he received occupational and physiotherapy. Robert was able to live a somewhat normal life. He was able to use the bathroom, let people dress and bathe him, and sit at a table to eat meals. Robert did not learn how to speak, but he was able to communicate his feelings when needed.
