Pears are deliberately picked unripe so they can ripen at home
If you’re up to date with your pear-picking techniques, you will likely know that pears always need to be picked when they are unripe. This allows them to ripen in the supermarket and when you take them home with you, so that they are perfectly sweet and crisp when you’re next ready for a fruity snack.
However, storing them in your refrigerator will actually stunt the ripening process and often leave you with bitter and hard pears that just won’t tickle your fancy. Of course, if you’re worried about your pears once they have ripened fully, you can keep them in your fridge to maintain such perfection until you’re hungry again.
