Jam is filled with its own natural preservatives
If you didn’t already know, jam is pretty chock-full of sugar. Although this is to upgrade the taste, it’s also used to preserve the product for as long as possible. When you have a full, unopened jar of jam, you don’t need to worry about keeping it in the refrigerator because the preservation process will keep it in check.
You might be happy to know that this doesn’t change when you’ve opened it either. That’s because you can keep it outside the fridge at all times – unless you have bought a jam that’s low in sugar. In this case, it will contain fewer preservatives and should be given a helping hand to stay fresh and safe.
