R. Allen Stanford
If Allen Stanford lives to serve his entire prison sentence, he will be 172 years old when he is released. In 2012, he was convicted of offenses related to Ponzi schemes worth $7 billion and sentenced to 110 years in prison. He appealed in 2014 but was unsuccessful. Originally from Texas, Stanford operated his scheme via his bank in Antigua where, in 2006, he was made Knight Commander of the Order of the Nation (KCN).
Stanford’s schemes lasted for 20 years and defrauded investors from over 100 countries. More than 30,000 investors were directly involved in Stanford’s activities. He used fake deposit certificates and generated massive profits which he uses to help fund his personal passions, such as creating cricket tournaments and buying real estate.
